Martyrium – Children Scream for Mercy (2019)

Martyrium
Release date: June 30th, 2019
Label: Australis Records

From the north of Chile comes the bands second full length and for those who don’t know these guys play thrash and the way they do it is purely as good as it gets as this is some furious kick you in the face shit!

From the start with a cool intro then the band takes off and first thing I noticed was the vocal style which surely sounds like that traditional chilean style you would expect but the riffing on here is excellent and the chant “Eaten Alive” adds that special flare to it.

As I listened to this whole album it got better with each spin as these guys really have some great hooks in their tracks with some killer leads everything a thrasher would want, you get those crunchy riffs as well and I really like the lyrical content of these songs as well cause they deal with real life which is a plus for me and yes sung in english and easy to understand.

This whole album is solid and is one of the best thrash albums I heard this year, I can’t even pick my favorite tracks as all of them kill and just when I was giving up on the thrash genre comes this gem, oh yeah it’s definitely got that old school feel to it. give it a listen you won’t be disappointed, whole album is on Spotify.

Necroripper – Amulepe Taiñ Weichan (2019)

Necroripper
Release date: May 20th, 2019
Label: No Mercy Reks

Well the long long awaited Necroripper release has finally come and as soon as I heard I had to check it out, for those that are not familiar with the band they play death/thrash and their debut left quite a mark back in 2012 so it’s been awhile.

This is up on Spotify just in case you wanna hear the whole thing as I did the review from listening there, but anyhow we get 8 tracks on here and this from the opening track Alwe Ulkantun you can tell the band is back with a vengeance! I was pretty much pleased from this opener and I wanna mention all the track titles are in the Mapuche language as you can see by the title of the album but sung in english from what I can hear and did some research and seen the 2 track promo had the lyrics in english so you will probably have to get a physical copy to see them.

But back to the album the next track Witxanalwe will crush you a full out attack on your senses and the production on here is superb as everything is heard the bass cracking, guitars, drums full in your face sound and it never lets down as you can here on Kollellaullin Weichafe things get even more intense as the vocals of Morbid Van Necroripper really stand out here and the bass guitar goes off a really smoking track.

The intro to Kütral Newen sounds like a horde of wolves coming at you then it breaks into an all out guitar fest of ripping leads is the best way I can describe it and short and sweet, and to the title track and here we get a little change in the vocal style but fits in perfect as it takes nothing away from the whole concept actually it fits in perfect even the slight break with a more pounding sound brings more light to the whole thing and the vocal style continues on to the next one Pewma which was a bit different in the beginning but gets going later on but has its own feel compared to the rest of the tracks on here, still brutal though and a nice fade away ending.

Nüyün Epew a heavy instrumental that has a very old school thrash vibe to it as the riffing catches the feel of the good old days and once again that crackling bass adds a more in depth sound and to the final nail in the coffin Kimün, a pure shredder as everything the album did from the start comes to a crashing end and I mean that in a good way just listen to the drums going off on here, fucking brilliant!

Was the wait worth it? hell yeah it was,it couldn’t of been much better so now I need a physical copy, the label No Mercy Reks put this out so an email is all I could find so here it is nomercyrekschile@gmail.com

Terror Society – Under Chaos (2019)

Terror Society
Release date: March 15th, 2019
Label: Independent

Here we have some kick ass thrash from this band that has been around since 2013 and on doing my research they actually released this EP last year but they put it out again with 4 bonus live tracks.

But from the beginning this caught my ear as it’s not like the rest of the pack when it comes to the vocals these really stood out as they are brutal but have there own feeling to them and the musicianship on here is superb as these guys know how to shred, the leads on here are just amazing and the production on these studio tracks really have this raw sound to them that even added more pleasure to my ears.

I got into this whole EP as it really shines throughout the whole thing even the live material shows off that these guys can rip, this is some serious thrash that will please most thrashers out there so give them a yell on their pages for more info.I just hope they put out more quality stuff in the near future.

Dangerous – Against All (2019)

Dangerous
Release date: March 9th, 2019
Label: Wolf Demons Records

Here we have the latest from this established thrash band as they have been on the scene for quite a few years now and have made a name for themselves by now.

A four track demo of some very interesting subjects as the opener Animal Liberation / Human Annihilation is basically what the title says, as I was reading the lyrics one might think it’s a vegan song but it’s more as they show you the other side of things as how humans are hypocrites with their stupid thinking, I personally love the message behind this and yes it rips in the way the band is known for so a great opener.

The next track Inner War is a gem as it has so much feeling to it and it should as it starts out with a slow bassline before it burst into a rage as the vocals come in and then it hits you with a punch and the leads on here are fucking killer as you can hear the snare drum going off as well and with a nice break near the end that just made this the track I love on here most.

Night Stalker, well you know who this is about, Richard Ramirez of course and a nice little thrasher on how his bent mind worked and very interesting as a bass solo appears near the end before this all outrage comes in to finish, the last track is a cover of Los Prisioneros a Chilean legendary band that the youth back in the day looked up too and this cover is excellent as the band give their own flare to it, nothing like the original but heavy this time and the message behind the song is perfect.

This is a great demo that still shows the band not letting down and still in the same vein as their previous release so definitely worth checking out, this was just released on tape and digital so go grab a copy.

Critical Defiance – Misconception (2019)

Critical Defiance
Release date:February 8th, 2019
Label:Unspeakable Axe Records

Some new Thrash from this band from Villa Alemana and had to check them out as I been hearing a lot about them since this was released.

From the opening track Desert Ways, I could hear there was something special as it was long with all kinds of shredding going on and just the way this band plays with all kinds of in your face aggression!

What’s really interested me was that each song has its own appeal to it even the instrumental 507 has this special sound to it that isn’t like the rest a bit tech maybe but still crushing! and the track What About You shows on how brutality can be taken to it’s ultimate as the solos are pure kill!

Onset is a hit or miss track as it’s long and a lot is happening throughout it which the listener will have to come to conclusion with as it’s 7 minutes long so have a listen, Pursuit of Chaos has a pure Bay Area feel to it with those chants that you heard a few bands back then added but they are all over this album but here they reminded me of that time, Misconception the title and final track is a perfect closer as to me the band get back to their best sound as the previous was a bit of a change for me.

This is should please all the thrashers out there as it has everything you would want in a release, vocals are perfect for it as sometimes these vocals might get boring on some thrash albums but not here, so I would put this as one of the best of the year at this point, an excellent debut.

Craneal – Promo (2019)

Craneal
Release date:Jan,29,2019
Label:Independent

So the band put this up today and just in time as I needed a fix of some brutal thrash and this 2 song promo did the trick, they hail from Osorno and this is their second release and I was very impressed by the first one you can read here.

This first track Craneal which is an instrumental is just a pure delight to the ears as this has all the elements a kick ass track should have ripping riffs and the dueling leads are all on here to get your headbanging to a tilt a excellent driving track that nails it!

Tiempo Final was bit different at the start when I first listened to it but it really got good when I read the lyrics to it as they are about what this fucking world we live in is today is crumbling to and the song rips as you hear the anger in Angel Torres vocals and the great chorus “GUERRA,MISERIA Y VIOLENCIA” makes it stand out.

Everything on here is perfect for a thrash release, good production as you can hear all the instruments,I have no complaints and this shows that there are some really good bands that are not based in Santiago, there are plenty of killer bands all over they just need to be noticed and get that special push that some label will see and support them, the band is giving this away you can download it here. The video below has the lyrics to Tiempo Final.

Evil Madness – Hidden Behind the Cross (2018)

Evil Madness
Release date:December 31st, 2018
Label:Grotesque Sounds Productions

Here we have the new EP by the band released on the last day of 2018 and a great way to start the new year, I knew this was coming soon and it was worth the wait, four original tracks plus a Demolition (Chile) cover.

Right from the start of Souls Possession you get that crushing speed this band is known for, ripping leads that kill as well, so a really good opener, the pace changes a bit on the beginning of Hidden Behind the Cross but this pounds no doubt and the bass shines bright on here as well and a fantastic lead that leads us into an all out speed frenzy and the ending is pure mayhem to the ears.

Darkness Rites comes out with pure fury in the typical way the band is known to do,totally thrashes everything in its path, and the last original track Blind Minds oh man is this the killer for me this starts out with a really nice mid pace tempo that I could picture a mosh pit going on while this being played live, even with a slight change that still has you pumped up then in closing as rips to the end, best track for me on here.

The cover of Demolition does the original justice or even better cause the production, if you heard the original you would know what I mean.

This is an excellent release to add to the rest of the bands discography,I highly recommend it as it shreds all the way through.

Duam – Códice Nocturno (2018)

Duam
Release date:July 1st, 2018
Label:B.L.Z.B.U. Records

Here is this black thrash trio from Quellón that I first heard back in 2009 and they pretty much impressed me back then, so I seen they have been active since then with one full length already under their belt so I checked out this latest one and they changed direction compared to their earlier material but still this is some pretty sick blasphemous shit.

All these brutal hymns are all written and sung in spanish, from Chivato which means SNEAK you can hear these guys are out to kill with some of the best lyrics that I can totally get into, pure anti christian shit! the sound of the band is total old school worship as you hear a bit of all the classics throughout this whole album,

The vocals are excellent as there is a lot of power behind them and even the slower track Macuñ shows how deep they are as they add to what the song is about, not a blast beat track but has the right punch to it.the track Ñancupel is pretty interesting as it’s about Pedro Ñancúpel a Chilean pirate that killed numerous and was later executed, a good track to the list.

There is a total of eight tracks on here and a very good release that should please most bangers out there, great sounding production only bad note this has been sold out in physical copy and only available in digital format.

Apostasy – The Sign of Darkness (2018)

Apostasy
Release date:June 24th, 2018
Label:Fallen Temple

It seemed like forever for this release to come out but I guess the wait was worth it as this is a killer release after I heard it all, if you follow the band there are some tracks on here that have been released before.

As Virgin Sacrifice comes in after the spoken intro, this old track sounds better than the previous version maybe the production improves it and that’s a good thing cause I remember when Cris Profaner had posted a preview and I had to tell him if that was going to be the final production and gladly it wasn’t as here it’s perfect.

Witching Fire is a new track on here a strong one as you get everything a good thrash track has to offer some killer leads that have that patent sound the band delivers, the next track Armageddon Is Near is more on the heavy side like more pounding is what I’m getting at and is good for what it is,solid track.

After The Great Damnation which is a mystical instrumental comes Blackened By Lust which was previously released but sounds better to me here than the previous version as well, Strike of the Tormentor had been released before but I never heard the first version so I went back and listened to the one released in 2016 and this new one here is better, the acoustic part in the beginning really builds up for the explosive part of the song which gave me a chill of a feeling taken me back to the 80’s but when it goes full throttle we come back to time as this rages, one of the highlights on this release.

Serpent Spell is cool bass solo instrumental that leads into the closer Satan Ascends and is perfect as this old Slayer riff kinda sounding starts it off before the track has its own life and Cris Profaner screams “Satan Rules Supreme” really stands out a really good way to end this.

I really enjoyed this to get away from all the real extreme releases I heard this year not that this is any weaker it’s just a different pace of heaviness, and Cris Profaner did an excellent job on the mixing and production to make this a really enjoyable experience to listen too and I recommend it to anybody that likes thrash in a good way like the old days.

Deathly Scythe – Celestial Darkness (2018)

Deathly Scythe
Release date:July 9th, 2018
Label:Necrolatry Records

This death thrash band from Santiago has been around since 2007 and I remember that first demo they did and how some reacted to it but after that they vanished for quite awhile and a song here and there popped up but I wanted to hear more than so this EP pops up earlier this year and I read a lot of good things about it, was even surprised when they did a small European tour earlier this year with Ejecutor.

So we get six tracks on here and mostly old ones redone, a new one and a Samael cover and from the get go of The Opposites which is an old track but here it sounds better than ever and the sound of this band is your typical death thrash but these guys got this really shredding sound as it’s brutal but has these really great hooks to it, you really have to put an ear to it to hear all what’s going on, Evil Magick and Lucifers Manifestation, these two old ones really kill but LM really shines this track is my favorite on here lots of vibes going on throughout it, very powerful and deep.

Black Conquest is the only knew original track on here and it keeps up with the rest, very crunchy riffing in the beginning as it gets you ready for the bashing it’s gonna pound on you and it sure does even as it might slow down near the end it’s a brilliant composition that will leave you floored and the way it fades off reminded me of old school shit that I haven’t heard in awhile, the cover is next and is just a good instrumental doing the original good and it ends with Abysmal Kingdom of Stars which like the previous, many time changes and still brutal til the end.

I have to say that the guitar tone on here is what I really enjoyed the most, the production is raw but passable, I just hope they don’t take another 2 or 3 years to make something new as this release no doubt has put them on the map in the underground but will have to wait and see.
