Terror Society – Under Chaos (2019)

Terror Society
Release date: March 15th, 2019
Label: Independent

Here we have some kick ass thrash from this band that has been around since 2013 and on doing my research they actually released this EP last year but they put it out again with 4 bonus live tracks.

But from the beginning this caught my ear as it’s not like the rest of the pack when it comes to the vocals these really stood out as they are brutal but have there own feeling to them and the musicianship on here is superb as these guys know how to shred, the leads on here are just amazing and the production on these studio tracks really have this raw sound to them that even added more pleasure to my ears.

I got into this whole EP as it really shines throughout the whole thing even the live material shows off that these guys can rip, this is some serious thrash that will please most thrashers out there so give them a yell on their pages for more info.I just hope they put out more quality stuff in the near future.

Sins of the Damned – Striking the Bell of Death (2019)

Sins of the Damned
Release date: May 5th 2019
Label: Shadow Kingdom Records

The first full length from these speed metalers from Santiago, I heard of the band’s previous releases and was looking forward on hearing this new full length as here we get some new tracks and only one old one that I’m familiar with out of the seven.

And was surprised that the title track was the intro and that’s what it basically is and a nice one that caught my ear as it has a more heavy metal feel to it but it goes directly into They Fall and Never Rise Again and here you get the sound the band has to offer, if you never heard the band they have a kinda euro feel and heavy dark vocals no wimp shit here and this one is about war as from what I hear in the lyrics and if you like that crunchy kinda picking it’s stands out on this track.

But for me when Take the Weapons comes on this even took this to a higher level as this track smokes in all it’s glory with the mighty yell of “Live Free or Die!” and just the all out attack on here I was stoked, has a great drive to it and it continues as The Lion and the Prey is just as powerful as the lyrics really add to the music as even the breakdown on the track has a nice flare at the end.

Then we come to this interesting track The Outcast (Sign of Cain) which has a strange intro but man does it have a lot to offer, I was so into this one as the drums really caught my ear as much as the vocals a really catchy number once you hear it. Victims of Hate is one of the shorter tracks on here and the guitar work on here is what you will notice the most which really stands out as it comes at you at full force through your speakers, made to be played loud!

So we come to the closer Death’s All Around You and this being the new version of this track you can really hear what good production can bring to a band as this sounds way better than the first version and yes this rips all the way to the end a great way to end this.

It took me a few listens to really get the feeling behind this as I only had an advance copy as it won’t be released til next month on Shadow Kingdom Records but once they do I’ll pick up a copy as hopefully it comes with the lyrics and they have shirts with this killer artwork as well and yes this is a killer release that you should hear and I recommend it.

Lux Nigrum – Burning The Eternal Return (2019)

Lux Nigrum
Release date: April 12,2019
Label: Herejia Prods./ Street Metal Blasphemy

Lux Nigrum has returned with this new EP that has five new rituals with it’s own flare that come across with full vengeance and here Azerate the mastermind behind this chaos has stepped it up a notch as this has a new sound compared to the previous works and it really stands out on this EP.

From the opening track Solvet Cosmos In Favilla this comes straight at you with a pounding crushing sound as all cylinders are at full throttle and if you heard the band before you will notice the vocals sound very clear which was something that was kinda toned down on previous works but here they stand out clearly which makes this even more enjoyable but what really caught my ear is the drumming of D. Holocausto (Morbid Holocaust) this made the band even more brutal on this release.

I will say this is interesting even down to the lyrical content as they describe this as a manifest about the sacrifice of the inner self, the sacrifice of Ouroboros as a tyrannical representation of the eternal circle of life and death, appealing to the destruction of the duality that makes of every act an empty consequence, On which this this whole opus is based around.

By the way this is sung in english and to me has that old school feel to it which even brought more light to it, I highly recommend this to any true underground metal maniac, top tracks for me Burning The Eternal Return and Salve Azerate, this will be a limited release of 100 copies + sticker on tape and you can get it by contacting Herejia Prods at herejiaprods@gmail.com or Street Metal Blasphemy streetmetalblasphemy@gmail.com

Mayhemic – Mortuary Feast of Skeletons (2019)

Mayhemic
Release date: March 18th, 2019
Label: Independent

The second offering from the band a 4 track EP which leaves off where the first demo left us.

Some killer riffing from the opening track Shaking Ground as this gets this off to blistering ear splitting sound that should get your fill as soon as you hear it, and it keeps tearing at you on the title track, this one is heavy as fuck! was a bit different paced at the start but then all hell breaks loose as this will crush you.

The band certainly has that old school feeling to it, a lot of old Kreator vibe to it but only when it comes to the music as the vocals speak for themselves which I have no complain and you can hear it well as the production on here is perfect!

Death Spawn is a bit different at first but it’s catchy as hell, a killer lead in here but this one really of all the tracks has a old school feel to it as it seems I heard something like this somewhere back in the day and it will slay you no doubt and when Demian (Vocals, Guitars) screams out Death Spawn! it grabs you instantly a true headbanger here.

And to finish this off Mayhemic and fuck yes! this will leave you floored as this is an all out assault on your mind, I could imagine seeing this live, a pit of maniacs losing it on this one without a doubt a crushing closer.

I highly recommend this,as there isn’t a dull moment on here, more info on the flyer below on how to get a copy.

Astrum – Existencia Perdida (2019)

Astrum
Release date: March 6th, 2019
Label: Independent

I stumbled across this release and they play melodic death metal which I usually might pass on but this is something that just caught my ear as it has an intention of grabbing you and it did me the instant I heard it as the twin guitar effect on here is superb, and from the track Cataclismo this takes you on a ride of pure enjoyment!

Yes you get your typical death metal vocals which are sung in spanish by the way but this is HEAVY in all kinda ways, the musicianship on here is as good as it gets, for a first release this is top notch, really can’t favor any tracks as all them have their own feel to them which is a good thing but hell I’m listening to this as I write this and it gets better with each listen.

These guys take melodic death metal to its peak! It might not be for the extremist out there but it deserves a listen and I’m glad I did because I find no fault in this whole release,This is available on digital format but I looked at the bands facebook and they have physical copies so contact them for that. hopefully this and maybe others catch on and we hear more from this band in the future.

Dangerous – Against All (2019)

Dangerous
Release date: March 9th, 2019
Label: Wolf Demons Records

Here we have the latest from this established thrash band as they have been on the scene for quite a few years now and have made a name for themselves by now.

A four track demo of some very interesting subjects as the opener Animal Liberation / Human Annihilation is basically what the title says, as I was reading the lyrics one might think it’s a vegan song but it’s more as they show you the other side of things as how humans are hypocrites with their stupid thinking, I personally love the message behind this and yes it rips in the way the band is known for so a great opener.

The next track Inner War is a gem as it has so much feeling to it and it should as it starts out with a slow bassline before it burst into a rage as the vocals come in and then it hits you with a punch and the leads on here are fucking killer as you can hear the snare drum going off as well and with a nice break near the end that just made this the track I love on here most.

Night Stalker, well you know who this is about, Richard Ramirez of course and a nice little thrasher on how his bent mind worked and very interesting as a bass solo appears near the end before this all outrage comes in to finish, the last track is a cover of Los Prisioneros a Chilean legendary band that the youth back in the day looked up too and this cover is excellent as the band give their own flare to it, nothing like the original but heavy this time and the message behind the song is perfect.

This is a great demo that still shows the band not letting down and still in the same vein as their previous release so definitely worth checking out, this was just released on tape and digital so go grab a copy.

Motosierra – Sobredosis de Heavy Metal (2018)

Motosierra
Release date: May 7th, 2018
Label: Iron Goat Commando (CD), Street Metal Blasphemy (Cassette)

When it comes to Heavy Metal, most bands usually go with the most well known influences, either German Heavy Metal, US Heavy Metal, N.W.O.B.H.M. or the classic Spanish Heavy Metal. Well, Motosierra decided to go the other way, most precisely, the dirty, fast and aggressive South American way.

Inspired by cult bands like V8 or Retrosatan, Motosierra’s take on Heavy Metal is pretty unique among other chilean bands. Not because of it’s originality (which is not a trait of their music), but for their ability to create one catchy riff after another, and turn those riffs into great songs.

And yes, this albums comes with a big “dejavu effect” and makes you think that you have heard this before, and yes, the production is a little bit thin sometimes, an yes, they could have a better vocalist, and yes, that introduction sounds like a blatant rip-off/homage to Diamond Head, but none of that matters once you get caught in this ridiculously catchy album. I mean, just listen to the marvelous instrumental start on Sobredosis de Heavy Metal (they could have skipped the intro with this), or the awesome opening riff on La Muerte, or the chorus on Gloria a Satán, or the solos from Acero Forjado, you name it, this album is full of awesome little moments that will make you bang your head, do air guitars or sing with your fists in the air. Also, good lyrics, simple and straight to the point.

I don’t know what else to say, this album is just too good to ignore it. If you like simple, fast and catchy Heavy Metal that reeks conviction and attitude, then you should really go get this.

Buried – Buried Alive! (2018)

Buried
Release date: November 11th, 2018
Label: Street Metal Blasphemy

After a few months i’ve finally got my cassette player repaired, so now i’m catching up with a bunch of stuff that I had laying around collecting dust. So, let’s start with this awesome live tape from Buried. This band comes from La Serena, and they play some really killer Death Metal influenced by Autopsy, Repulsion, Dream Death, Impetigo and Nihilist (to name just a few). Their lyrics are mostly inspired by H.P. Lovecraft, horror movies, gore, zombies, death and stuff like that.

This is a live recording from the band’s presentation at Devastación Metálica XIII, on the 7th of october of 2017. The setlist is composed of the tracks from both demos, The Expelling of the Nameless Horrors (I & II), minus the title track, and also including the track Morbid Mass Abomination, taken from the upcoming 7″ It Won’t Stay Dead. Great performance, with the trio sounding very tight. I was pleasently surprised with the versions of Voodoo Cannibal Horror Experience, The Re-Animator and The Horror from Beyond.

The cassette is really well done, transparent shell with yellow engraving, and a 5 panel jcard with live photos from the band. Very good job by Street Metal Blasphemy. I’m not sure if the cassettes were professionaly duplicated, or homemade, but the sound quality is excellent.

I’m not really fond of live recordings, because more often than not they sound like crap, but this is a nice exception. Get this if you can, you won’t regret it.

Invocation Spells – Spread Cruelty in the Abyss (2018)

Invocation Spells
Release date: April 17th, 2018
Label: Hell’s Headbangers Records

Invocation Spells must be easily one of the most prolific bands in the chilean underground in recent years. This is their fourth full length in merely five years, which is pretty remarkable considering that a lot of bands release a demo and then disappear for 5 years. Anyway, what matters to us is the music, and in this case it’s a good thing that quantity does not mean lack of quality.

What you will find here is some savage Black/Thrash Metal the way it’s supposed to be played, but Invocation Spells give their personal touch to the classic sound of the genre, with a lot of pace changes, and some nice little details, like the clean vocals in Spread Cruelty or the violin intro in Obscure and Evil. Coincidentally, those two are some of my favourite tracks on this album, alongside with Victims of Doom.

Sound-wise there is not much to complain about. The production is clean, but not plastic. The drums’ sound is powerful enough without drowning the rest of the instruments, the guitars have the right mixture of sharpness and rawness, the bass serves as almost a second guitar, but with it’s own personality, the vocals have the right dose of reverb. The only thing that I believe that the band should pay some more attention to are the lyrics. Some of them seem as a mix of verses with no real connection between each other, and of course, there’s the “broken-english” thing, but that doesn’t bother me that much (it’s basically a trademark in Metal since the beginning).

This album fits perfectly in the style of some other killer chilean bands like Miserycore, Infernal Slaughter, Perversor, Necromantic Forces, Attacker Bloody Axe, Invincible Force or Blasfemia (to name just a few). A must buy if you are into this style of savagery.
